Sorry, Stadia. You're a bigger failure than the 32x and Virtual Boy combined.

Pfft, Stadia was a terrible failure because Google is a horribly vile company at every level. At least Ouya was pathetic enough to get sympathy.

@eng1 Google certainly has the money to keep it going, yes, but they have a substantial number of instances in the past in which they killed a product that was underperforming rather than eating the loss and taking time to improve it. That reputation, along with the fact that you have to rebuy games to play them on Stadia, means very few people are going to put in any sort of initial investment because why would you put money into a boat owned by someone with a history of sinking boats?

@eng1 even if stadia would work flawlessly, other services like gforce now or shadow pc seem like way better offers

@znv0yq there are only 3 companies that can make cloud gaming work flawlessly, google, microsoft and amazon. Because to make it you need local servers everywhere. Those 3 companies keep cloud servers everywhere anyways and have contracts with isps for direct connections, for others its an uphill battle just like onlive.

@xitel The thing is that for the time being at least the prime market for these things is casuals. And most of them dont care about such things, they just want to play whatever game and will most likely never play it again. The hardcore people are gonna be stuborn for physicial disks till the end. And by that point it will already be decided.

Not to mention google generally kills off products that under perform if they have niche appeal, for mass market stuff its a different story.

@eng1 Ok but downloading, only via streaming for videogames, is flawed to begin with, and no matter how much Internet speeds go up or latency down it remains the same as the problem is still there.

@abetillo internet speeds these days are less of an issue then latency, that is why you need local servers with direct connection. Overall, it would make games a lot more stable if developers focus on a platform they can easily replicate. So no driver issues and the like and you dont need to buy a top end pc to play latest games at 4k and 60fps or above.

Streaming has both its pros and cons. For hardcore gamers the cons might be too much, but for majority of people who dont want to buy latest gpu every 2 years or want to deal with overheating pcs or debugging drivers or want to play at max settings on their 1lb laptop, it can be quite appealing. Even when you go to a hotel, you can use androidtv or plug in a usb stick and play all your games.

Cause lets be honest, most hardcore gamers spend more on 1 computer that will last onky 1 or 2 years then most gamers do on their computer plus all games they will ever buy in thier lifetime

@eng1 Ok, but i was not talking about appeal or stereotypes and tagging of groups, but about characteristics and technical issues.
Let me rephrase it, no matter how much they improve things, the issue remains there as they are only patching the issue, with servers o wih anything else they think of, not solving.

@abetillo you are being rather vague, what characteristics or technical issues in specific are you referring to?

Overall, cloud gaming will easily surpass lical gaming, especially this decade as we hit the limits if die shrinks. Which means to output more processing power you would need larger computers. This becomes even more so as we move to quantum computing.

Stadia was doomed from conception. Without being able to store games for the user locally, Stadia had a massive problem on day one.
