I thought the funny voices in his head in recent-ish chapters, and all his sudden dark aura-ish stuff, indicated something more sinister and mystical was going on than just him deciding to go full-blown yandere, especially since it's seemed to particularly be a thing since he got the partial brain-wipe...

But it could just be bad writing. *shrugs* XD
