The author made a very critical storytelling mistaken when he created his background. The plane crash is actually a very good idea as far as him getting lost, getting turned into a child soldier at 9 by a pseudo-military group of clean-shaven mercs is not... since they are portrayed somewhat positive, which shouldn't be the case. It would have been better if he was taken in by some dodgy, bearded group of radical fighters. Would add an extra layer to the conflict between his hardcore upbringing and and the peaceful life in Korea.
