Even tho the ship appearance looks like traditional materials that exist in that universe, it's only because think that's how a spaceship should be.
This explain why the reactor is a black box for the mechanics, because Hiro doesn't understand it either while it was ingame, which for ship is understood as "this reactor is uncomprehensible and thus shall look to be that".
Fun fact: the ship also needs maintenance because Hiro think it should.
Technically, it doesn't need to resupply at all its weaponry but do due to Hiro thinking it does too

The TV crew used "real" cameras too. It seems that optics are optics, and no amount of sci-fi magic is going to make a cellphone camera as good as a larger standalone device. Sensor size and lens size trumps convenience if you're serious. And this man takes his hobby VERY seriously.

the crew learn this while having their ship analyzed by the psychic power planet's scientists, but due to Hiro being adamant in his mind that a ship needs armament and rearmament, the ship still needs it. The mechanic sisters are pretty outraged by the revelation that the ship is pretty much an existent potentially sentient entity. Hiro create a Krishna battle mode in his mind that make the ship sprout wings and spew psychic instant laser attack and a bunch of other stuff that defy physics

in the psychic power planet arc, they tell hiro that they are the ones responsible for his "summoning" and that each "summoned" people always come with some powers, hiro's one being his ships and superhuman abilities (another summoned was an rts player and can basically create armies from nothing and see the battles in rts top view

Yeah, but it's more Cordyceps zombie/breeding ground, rather than a traditional Romero zombie, so you would notice those are just Crystal lifeforms if that's what happened.

Damn, I was worried about this when they announced the separation of the fleet. Of course the other fleet got wrecked. The one with Hiro in it got quite a bit of battle but there wasn’t anything as big as the carriers we saw in the attack against the base. So then where did the mass of crystal life forms go? Wrecking the 3rd and 4th fleets ofc.

The ship enthusiast captain is cool, nice to have another potential ally in the fleet. I’m surprised him and Hiro didn’t hit it off, but I know Hiro is always cautious around the nobles.

Perhaps he's also a photography enthusiast. There are still people in our time using old film cameras to take B&W photos, to develop them by themselves. In fact there are people who mess with even more historical camera types. That's just how it is. The captain could be a man of many interests.

This makes me think of the DS9 episode where apparently there's some starfleet officer who has a hobby of sneaking onto famous ships to take a picture with the Captain's desk.
