I'm not sure if I'm the only one feeling this, but the story is going all over the place. The story at first was just him doing things so that he can buy newer and bigger ships. I want it to go back to that, more simple life, less of this hiding and political sh*t.

I'm guessing that publically showing off an indestructible ship can gain a lot of investment. It's still dangerously close to messing with his goose and a lot can go wrong. What if it gets out that Wataru is the Mage? That could be enough for Wataru to say "Can't trust you, see you never." What if the boat is destroyed? It won't, but the guild master doesn't know it won't with 100% certainty.

It's a high-risk high-reward move.

Actually, I see that as a High-Risk No-Reward.
Wataru knows who has an inkling that he's the mage: Girasole and suspects the guild knows as well. If the cat's out, he knows that Girasole wouldn't do him that dirty so he, by elimination, would blame the guild, end all deals with them and leave. There are more nations and guilds elsewhere, so he only has to pick one (and I think he already considered that).

Probably a (all too common) case of the author forgetting the details of his own setup... Even if they let the guy board, one of the stipulations is that no one on board a ship can harm anyone else.

NGL, I agree with those above who say he should have said No to the testing. He has nothing to prove and gains nothing from the test. In fact he looses quite a lot. The author might hand wave this farce away, but in participating it raises the awareness of the lords and leadership of his peeson.

FFS there are two guildmasters and a knight from the southern Duke acting as observers and an S Rank fuckboi conducting the test. This exactly the kind of attention Wataru wanted to avoid. And after the test is completed there will be another Nation of idiots that will think they can give Wataru quests and Missions as if he was one of their servents.

Grammar and translations are iffy, generally readable, but on page 6 how did you even get "Oh, so this is what the famous Lucca pavilion can do?" from "ルッカ防衛の報酬か"? It makes no sense in context and even MTL translates it correctly to "Rewards for the defence of Lucca", the whole reason they've come to visit him.
