Some people mentioned that spikes can be coming out of him because boy was cursed to death using wara ningyo dolls nailed to a forest tree, that's why he's in forest and has nails stuck in him.
I think that's on the right track, but the other way around. I noticed that the boy's arms were covered in what looks like hay like the wara ningyo. The eye horn also kinda looks like it's made of rope.

I think the kid was sacrificed to PLACE a curse on a place or group.

The Fox Kami also looked like it was created by ritualistic sacrifice, so that might just be a part of the towns history and there are actually several gods floating around. Forgotten, but still present

She asked them to help bring Julia back with the bunny bun as payment.
unless she asked them off camera, all that was shown was her thanking them. I could see a plot with them chasing after her because of the energy that was left in the bun though

Pretty sure what's happening with the god is that it sees a 'symbol' being 'worshiped' on its grounds as a path to power. Assuming it's some form of forgotten minor deity, here's this symbol with all this belief behind it and nowhere to go. So if it were to, say, appear in the form of the rabbit to people, then perhaps that power would flow to it, rather than just dissipate or whatever.

Once again I get the feeling that Miko's "spirit-vision" is very deceptive and confuses "alien" with "evil/hostile". Which admittedly must be very frustrating. If only she had some kind of defense against the ghosts so she wouldn't be taking huge risks trying to interact with them.
Deceptive implies that her vision makes them look scarier than they are. From what we know of her sight, she's seeing most everything for what it is, with the exception of a few that have been so powerful she only sees something like a representation or lure - thinking way back to one of her early visits with rom, those tend to be the most 'normal'-looking (for a given value of normal).

ALL OF THAT ASIDE
I love michiru's tentacle thing getting in on the fun. You can't tell me it poking its' eyes through the mask is anything but play behaviour

If you've read this far and you don't feel combative towards my opinion as most people here, thank you. If your intent is still on mocking me, you're just proving my "brownie point" argument. I won't blame you for following the grain to feel accepted by the majority,
Okay, imagine for a moment, that I'm not mocking you, but am actually giving the counterpoint. I want you to imagine that, because that's actually the case.

I've already made this point several times, but you've ignored it, or you just completely missed the argument, IDK.

What you want is for the story to move in a problem solving direction. I.e. you want Mieruko to actively work to improve her situation. To learn more about the spirits; learn more about which are safe and which are not; learn how to defend, learn how to attack.

At this point, you should understand that I understand what you're looking for. I also think that such stories can be good stories. (And if I were personally in Mieruko's situation, this is what I would be doing.)

But that would be a different story than the story the author is telling. And the resulting feel of the story would be quite different from the story that the author is giving us. And those different styles of stories have different audiences. What you want is what I called "Action Horror" genre, vs what Mieruko is, which is more straight "Horror".

People are objecting to your desires because you keep arguing that Mieruko should not be the genre that it is (that already has a large audience that likes it specifically for what it is), and instead be a different genre which would have a different audience.

This is exactly point that I made previously (in a much more succinct way) when I responded earlier:
Expecting a Power Up Fantasy from a Slice of Horror manga?

The reason that it's moving slow, the reason that Mieruko is not going out and trying to solve things is that the fundamental core of the story is that Mieruko is not a person who Combats Horror, but a person who Endures Horror.

If that is a story that you don't like, then quit reading it. [Taking bets now on likelihood of a "Don't tell me what I can read!" response.) This isn't an insult or command, it's just an obvious point: If something isn't your cup of tea, then quick drinking it!

...

Now you might criticize the author for Mieruko acting unreasonably just to stick the the genre. But the author does a fair job of doing that.
  • It's difficult to teach about the spirits, because the spirits are all over the place, and if they hear you talking about them, they'll attack. (E.g. Mieruko and grandma in the diner.)
  • Different people see the spirits differently. (Rom explicitly states this, notably for the picture of the deathly(?) bystander.) It's not just a question of seeing more or less, but rather Rom sees that same thing differently. And since they see things differently, Rom can't say something like "If it looks like X, then it's bad." because Mieruko wouldn't see "X", she would see "Y".
  • Rom also stated explicitly that he didn't really have a guide to when something is safe or not. Rather, it's just a sense that he and others picked up because they had the ability since birth. Mieruko only recently gained the ability, so she doesn't have a sense yet.
  • Also (and somewhat contrary to my previous point), in this chapter there was the rule about "if the crystal fractures" that Rom was telling someone (probably Mieruko, since she reacted but Julia did not). So, if that's right, then Mieruko is getting some instruction.
The overall feel that the author gives us, is that in this world, spiritualists are mostly on their own, having to work out their own paths. I.e., the author sets up lore that fits with the genre/audience that the author is shooting for.

ok, go to original thread and prove me wrong.
why it's so hard if it's just "incoherent bullshit"? one of them actually use this argument and when i debunk it he move the goal post saying i was too mean, i prove him wrong again since the other guy was the one who start it first and i'm only retaliate upon it he just said he's done talking

sure he's not a coward lmao

thank you for the chapter, and lol I love how Michiru is adjusting to the festival, this is either her first festival or she hasn't been to one in a while do to her sister's views.
Also its nice to see Julia get some development again poor girl still needs an upgrade at some point... though that makes me wonder who was the other person she was referring to in her flashback other then the godmother.

Maybe nothing will come of it, but I'm worried Hana made a "Deal" with the Park Kami like what happened with the Fox Kami. I don't think it had anything to do with maintaining it's territory and was just people watching until Hana made a request. Some variant of "Keep Julia safe", I assume & that's why it left the grappy ghost alone until it made a move on Julia. Hopefully her offering is enough to satisfy it
I think she should be in the clear on the deals front.

Miko asked the fox spirit for a super big open ended favor and when she tried to give it an offering it got super pissed.

Whereas Hana just thanked the spirit for it's help and gave it an offering, which it accepted.

Also I think the spirit was waiting for the grabby ghost to come out of that girls leg.

Based on how the spirits are, there are far FEW ones that are benevolent. At "best", they tend to be more self serving. Let's just say they lucked out with this one.

One thing I dont get with other commenters.

Why do they think she is suddenly going to be a "ghost fighter" or anything. From the premise, it looks like she never gained her ability to see them until after her father died. Like it was such a huge shock and regret for her it made it so she could see them. Which means she literally only had this power for a year and only in the last few months? (not sure time frame here) learned there are people that can deal with it. She isnt like Julia or Rom who saw them their whole lives, this is an entirely new thing for her.

It also appears she doesnt see just ghosts, it hasnt been too clear, but she sees other beings that the godmother or Rom can't see. I have a feeling her powers will disappear if she just acknowledges her father and says she is sorry and that she loves him.

I wonder what Mieurko could do with her power? The guy in the suit seemed to be pretty powerful, maybe she could do something similar, making deals with gods and spirits. Not that kind of manga though lol.

- miko : ... hana ... , yuria-chan ...

- yuria : ... hana-chan ... , romu-san ... , miko-chan ...

- michiru : ... miko-chan ...

- hana : ... michiru-chan ... , yuria-chan ...

gyaru girl uses the pronoun "uchi" .

yuria use the pronoun "watashi" .

page 4 :
why miko is scared of a normal , poor kid who doesnt wear shoes ?

page 11 :
- hana : ... ramu danaka-san ...

- the rabbit : ... everyone-san ...

page 19 :
- in the memories , gyaru girl said : ... you think you are a "mieruko-chan" ? ...

i noticed these things :
page 8 : yuria pulls down her sleeve to hide her bead bracelet from the gyaru girl .

then in page 26 : yuria reveals her bead bracelet .

page 36 :
- gyaru girl : ... my right leg definitely feels more better and more lighter ( because the ghosts dont weight down her leg anymore ) .

so after this chapter , yuria gets a new girl-friend for herself : the gyaru girl , lol .

- hana : ... thank you , the park 's kami-sama ...
