Seems like barely anyone noticed (and that's why it spawned this huge argument and ppl thinking the author was being cheap), but the woman in pages 8 and 9 is different from the woman with the ghost kid. The first one has longer, baggier, light-coloured pants (there's no way that is shading, it makes zero sense to be) and short hair, while the one in page 11 has longer hair tied in a ponytail, black, shorter pants with white cuffs. Even her bag is different. And actually, the boys seem to have different hair. It's drawn the same way in pages 8 and 9, but different in 11. The difference is so small tho, so it'd be hard to notice. Idk if there's a difference in their clothes.

Tl;dr, it's a different woman with a different boy that is actually a ghost. The author just fooled us all and considering how most didn't notice, imagine being Miko and being distracted by your gloomy thoughts. No way she'd notice anything.

That kid was a lot more dangerous than people might realize. He could disguise himself perfectly as a normal person, which means he's a trap for people who can see spirits, which apparently is a rare talent but not as rare as one might think. Furthermore, he killed one of the attendant miko spirits. They've only fought three times so far. The hungry ghost that got huge killed both of them, which provoked the inari/nine-tailed fox god to intervene, the trashcan spider killed none of them, and he killed one of them. Which means that kid is stronger than the trashcan spider, which was already an extremely strong ghost.

That's horrifying, if you stop and think about it. That kid is a perfect trap, just sitting there waiting to kill some medium, and he's stronger than the trashcan ghost. He's an ambush predator. Like the trapdoor spider of ghosts. So while this may seem like a wasted use, and maybe logically it is, since she could have just not waved, it's actually a pretty valid use of one of the saves, because he's incredibly dangerous and there's no real defense against his trick.

I thought that horror wouldn't really work in a manga format. That balloon kid, and the reveal the Mieruko's dad was actually dead a while back, proved me so so so so wrong.

When the fox spirits showed up I thought 'oh nooo that's the third time, what about that teacher', then actually that's the second time... but that kid, who thought it can disguise as alive human... Miko, go find other means to protect yourself, only one left from these foxes.
