I don’t think I’ve ever explicitly stated this, but as most of you have probably realized, Takase’s mother’s family is based in Kyoto. They are a prestigious family line dating back to the era when Kyoto was the capital, and she is the young lady and eldest daughter of the main branch. While this family isn’t literally yokai, they’re a clan full of martial arts powerhouses who act like total monsters, constantly locked in daily infighting over the family's rights and interests.

During her childhood, Takase’s mother had zero interest in those family feuds and was purely, obsessively head-over-heels for Takase’s father, who was a novelist. When he came to Kyoto and met her, it might not have actually been a coincidence...

Naturally, when Takase’s mother suddenly decided to marry, her own family threw a massive fit. They tried to get rid of Takase’s father through all sorts of means, including poison and sending assassins after him. But thanks to his naturally absurd durability, he managed to endure every single attempt.

Having lost his patience, Grandpa (calling him "Takase's mother's father" every time would be too long) set a condition for the marriage: he ordered Takase’s father to act as the main branch’s representative warrior in the family's rights-and-interests battle tournament. So, Takase’s father was unilaterally made a fiancé, unilaterally turned into a gladiator, and forced into fight after fight—yet somehow, he actually won the whole thing.

Grandpa, having officially secured the family's interests, did a complete 180 and was overjoyed, eventually becoming the doting grandfather he is today. The clan factions were unified, and now it’s just a peaceful, insanely wealthy, massive household. And that is how the two of them somehow became the happily married lovebirds they are today. Happy ending, happy ending.

To recap: Takase’s father was stalked, tied up, reverse-raped, nearly murdered by the headquarters of a mysterious yokai-like clan, and then forced to beat up a bunch of those monster-like guys in battle just to secure the happiness he has now. Quite an intense life for a novelist, isn’t it?

That said, since all this drama has almost zero bearing on the actual romantic comedy between Mikoto-chan and Takase that I’m currently drawing, please just brush it off as a fun little origin story about how the parents met.
