I'll go ahead and give them the benefit of the doubt. I just don't have it in me to be mean to those people. My wife worked in a call center for years because they were the only place hiring at something above minimum wage. Yeah, she was a wage slave.

Now she wasn't trying to sell people stuff, she was a customer service representative for various companies regarding benefits- primary their insurance. That place will mind rape you. Sometimes she would come home and cry after the abuse she would take over the phone. Or the various stories that would shred your soul and make you weep with sorrow. Remember- she worked primarily in insurance.


So yeah. Just politely say no and end the call.

Yeah sad to say work life balance is optional in Asia 😭

Sadly the scam calls in my area are mostly automated. Machines that activate their recordings only when it hears someone talking from the other side of the phone, so I don't even get the enjoyment of taking the piss out of the scammer. Not only did they throw out the honest part in 'honest work', now they're throwing out the work part too.

I remember one time when I was really bored, I got a scam call and it was clear as day:
I always reply in english (I'm spanish) so whoever was at the phone got confused and said "wait a second please" very poorly. Then I got someone speaking perfect english to me, saying hello sir I'm bla bla and I replied in spanish "I don't understand" so he said to wait a second again and got someone else to speak in spanish the same lines. So I did the best thing I could, reply in german since I'm a man of languages - he got extremely confused and said to wait, eventually someone with a super broken german came in and tried to do the scam thing. Seeing this cycle and that it was working, with all my boredom all I could reply was "¿Qué?".

And thus I made them spend half an hour on me until they were the ones that gave up.
