While I don't agree about Mimi's stance about children, this "donate at checkout" is a big corpo tax evasion scheme:

The corporations are writing off the costumers donations from the corporations taxes.
While the money gets donated, they literally don't ask for the donations themself, they ask you to pay they taxes. That's why are they usually very insistent.

Tbf I wouldn't deliberately donate through cashier on convenience store or supermarket. I say yes because I hate handling small changes but otherwise I wouldn't. I much prefer donating through a charity that I spent hours to verify, community fundraising, directly to the person that needed it, or mosques reputable for its community programs. Extra care is required if you want to donate to special cases like Gaza because you'd want to donate directly to the survivors there or to organizations that has actual presence there, like UNRWA, Sameer Project, or MERC Indonesia because otherwise, your donation will be worthless as isntreal block every aid even if the charity is legit. Anyway, my point is that it is your right to choose how you donate and you actually should choose how you donate and corporate charity is a big yikes.
