Didnt expect to see this pop up again, thanks for the TL.

I wonder if things will play out like I predicted and the village will kill the mermaid.

“Just pretend it’s not there” is a very japanese way of dealing with problems, even something as bad as a kidnapping mermaid.

oof quite a weird town, i can sorta understand 'leaving dangerous monsters' alone but you'd think they'd set up some kinda barrier even if they don't directly ostracize the mermaid or throw rocks at them bc i feel like a child's curiosity would make them approach esp after being told it's dangerous

Fish are cute tho (although i suppose in this kinda world with 'dangerous mermaids' that might unintentionally be the most cruel insult), sucks if bullying is seen as light teasing although as far as things go at least the teacher 'interfering' didn't make things too bad/worse

Don't stop! We need more! After last chapter, I'll read it again. Really interesting.

Ah, this sanctimonious sort of teacher. I knew far too many of those growing up. Few would find their own redemption arc like Hayase, though.

So....I really dislike fish. I don't mind eating them......but I really don't like their looks or even worst touching one. Scally and slimmy creepy fuckers. Just like having fish as pets..... they creap me out..😬

The tap water turned that one girl into a mermaid. I'm sticking with that theory.

I forgot the name of the doll that shan't be named but the fact that it's on all fours intimates to me that the curse turns you into an animal in a way. The mermaid is literally a predator in the ecosystem with no empathy for anything other than humans. And that is a maybe why the girl who was cursed into animorphing said her mom looked delicious 0_0

Who knows where the lines are for fish-eyed people's mental baseline. Short of the cannabilism stage, I can't blame the inter-human cruelty on lake water. Maybe it should have been obvious but I'm slightly shocked the cruel extent of their willful ignorance is entirely taught. By that rural/collectivist stereotype a fence is at least metaphorically an embarassment and a reminder whereas disappearances and people turning into predators can be ignored most days.

It's painful irony that Ayuno-chan really may be a local cutie who isn't being bullied, but Hayase-sensei's own humiliation for trying to act with empathy and recieving almost no support will likely make her give up to the town's atmosphere and be less proactive in the future. Hayase must be a comparativley newer arrival who went to college out of town and is years behind on cultural osmosis about what adults avoid saying outright about mermaids, lake water mutation, and social norms.

I really love the atmosphere of this manga. It's just generally oppressive and awful, nobody is able to be properly happy. I'm not sure where things are going, but I'm really enjoying it. And man are those eyes spooky.
Anyways, needs more girls kissing tbh
