I thought it was explained? He used to be married, and he thought the best way to support his wife was to work extra hard and bring home the bacon. He ended up working so much that he was never home, and she divorced him. He decided to change his work ethic to "Hakuna Matata" and that he would never date again.
She was only his fiancée and not his wife. This is one of the notations I have for Konishikawa:

o) Traumatized by his breakup when his fiancée said his entire life was based on hurting and stepping over people and that "you no longer have the right to love anyone", leading him to go way too far to avoid hurting people

TIL "slow burns" are real and enjoyed by many. They're defined by focusing on pre-romantic tension and gradual understanding of each other. The lengthy display of this focus is supposed to be justified by obstacles. In Misato and Konishikawa's case that would be:
  • seniority
  • age gap
  • culture
  • same workplace
And having the characters wading through all of this IS the catch. I'm not going to lie, I do enjoy it. But there's a limit to stretching which I think was long passed.
I'm not sure you're using "TIL" right. It means "Today I Learned". But this feels more like you were already familiar with it and are explaining to others. If I'm mistaken, I apologize.

I didn't think of a shorthand for "I was aware about X, but I didn't know what it truly was until now". I didn't know slow burns were very intentional for the enjoyment of others.

Maybe... TIR = Today I realized... ehhh... that's not popular enough.

So yeah, I was familiar with it, but for the most part, I misunderstood it's purpose.

If you think the limit has been passed then you may not like slow burns just saying.

It's like the longer it simmers the deeper the flavor. This is akin to Smoking behind the supermarket for me but different. Each new obstacle a new flavor profile that author-san reveals that you didn't previously know was possible.

It can be quite delectable with solid characters and in this case we get both cases of introspection. Not just the man or woman.

I typically don't like them, because the manga ends too early after "the meal has been cooked". It's like waiter grabs your plate from you after only taking two bites.

ARGH yeah I get that. I both hate waiters touching my plate when there is clearly food on and not feeling satisfied. I wasn't satisfied in my dress up darling cause it felt like Gojo didn't grow enough as a character.

Here though with Konishikawa and Misato I feel like I will be only because we have gotten so much
1. Rich introspection on both parts
2. Almost confessions that feel plausible
3. It doesn’t feel like a normal willl-they-wont-they cause there is an actual reason. K isn't oblivious, he has noticed but always writes it off for his trauma, their age gap and their current relationship as colleagues. Man is drinking mad respect women at work juice especially when you're senior to them and it could be power harassment

If he was just all, low self esteem she couldn't like me then it would be aggravating and just more of the same drivel from other series and is likely why you've stuck around to sample the flavor despite it not being your go-to dish of choice
