Maybe he felt guilty? Honestly, he seems to be more likely to be the one to set the house on fire really. His younger brother seems too innocent and naive.

Iirc he's a pretty smart kid. I think he became the way he is now because the father wanted him to takeover as the head doctor of the clinic when all he wants is probably study astronomy and the pressure got to him.
