Eyo?... to be honest the plot of a 9-year-old spending time with his older brother's wife is so random that I dunno what to do with it, so carry on.
I mean, I think I'm not wearing shipping goggles here (please let me know if I'm mistaken) but… Hinako has yet to interact with a single character other than Mitsuba, correct? Yuusuke has basically not appeared at all yet.

I guess my main question is, for how long will this continue? Will they keep being each other's main/only company? Is that even healthy? And while shipping them would fix this one specific problem, it would raise 100× as many new ones.

So are we supposed to ship them or nah?
Nah there is no romance between them, this is probably going to end up like the author previous work Shirogane no Nina. Both have their own life to worry about but they still enjoy each other company.

they firmly in the friendzone. a relationship doesn't have to be romantic 100% of the time
You mean “sibling zone”. They're definitely not just friends.

With all that said…

There's nothing I like more than sweet vanilla romance. That of course includes spousal fidelity, so I'd normally be inclined to ship Hinako with Yuusuke.

Y'know what else is included in sweet vanilla romance? Not neglecting your spouse.

So if Hinako turns out to receive zero affection/intimacy from Yuusuke, I'll start shipping her with Mitsuba with “FIGHT ME BRO” levels of conviction. It wouldn't be a pleasant thing, but it would be a thing.

Always glad to see a fellow shipper in the forums here, and I agree, that while that does count as infidelity, which I hate with every fiber in my body, I cannot spare any remorse for husbands/wives who neglect the spouse on purpose, or stop caring about them after sometime into the marriage (which I believe is a huge complaint in Japan, reasoning why cheating is kinda overlooked by society as long as it stays unknown). It's one thing not being able to be with your partner, either due to work or any other good reason, and both couples communicate it, and make sure it remains in the short term. But on purpose, nah.

Though I think in this case, we're not seeing a lot of Yuusuke since the focus is on her and Mitsuba's cute relationship. Personally don't see it going the shota x oneesan route.

This is imho a good and cute read for when you're not riled up, very comparable to Shirogane no Nina. The plot never really gets ambitious or even just a little tense and the characters talk a lot about arguably trivial stuff like food, but they're completely realistic and the story thus also avoids the pitfalls of ambitious storytelling. Give it a try if you neither expect nor need a masterwork.

Ps: @shippers
I'm pretty sure the girl with the twintails from school is supposed to be his (future) love interest...
