MC is dumbest character in the story. Even the apparently irrational wolf monsters were made smart enough to run away from someone with a ranged weapon.

Sure, Sil's giant form is... a bit too much, but she has a perfectly useable adult form.

Ironically, if we ignore the whole "fire & downwind" thing, had he used the surströmming, it would have been ridiculously effective. Thing is, dogs seem to really, really, REALLY like surtströmming for some odd reason (they don't register bad smells the same ways we humans do, so for them it smells like glory), so if all had gone well for our guy, he would've likely domesticated the pups in a flash.

thiiiiiiis is really forced...how are the dogs seeing through the fire? how do they know their prey isnt already dead? how do they know they need to take turns? there needs to be a window where they check that can be taken advantage of and in that window the girl can get another breath

yes i do remember how he 'got' there and i saw no problem with that, whats your point? all of my questions remain unanswered therefor i find it dumb. once the prey is dead do they continue to take turn launching fire at ash until they pass out? i assume they want to eat their enemies after they kill them but their plan doesnt allow for that, the logic here is so stupid its baffling
