Among other things, yes. Naming also allows a card to be revived by consuming another card of the same species. It can also be refused by the card if they aren't fond of the master. There's other stuff it does too, but the manga's not that far yet.

It also didn't help that the last arc where he was challenged he just insta learned to be able to share thoughts without saying a word. It's not like they didn't gain bonds, it was more like they just said "Yeah he can do that now" So I do expect him to face it but I'm worried they'll pull a similar thing here make our mc just get an epiphany and then the boss gets done in.

I mean, Chekhov's gun demands that MC meets the wolf. But he also doesn't fit the same theme as the other girl. He's very attentive to the others and very much has helped them as much as they have helped him (aside from possibly Mare and definitely the new girl). I would bet that the wolf will demand the same, and at the very least doggo and vampire lady (and likely MC) will refuse.
