I still feel iffy about the aliens in the prologue but I love how this series has a strong Sunrise mecha anime feel.

That's what I was thinking so I checked back. Her name wasn't mentioned at all, and given that it's Gundam, cloning would be a good guess, given that the Eights are a product of artificial births.
