I'm sorry, but I can't take Coney seriously in this one. For one thing, it's not clear how much she's grown up since her mother's death - the flashback to when she took "Mom went to heaventhe Moon" literally isn't contrasted with anything. For another, she jumps too quickly from "Piloting the mecha is completely impossible for me" to "I must use our high-school sport mecha to fight the legendary monster that already took down two trained soldiers."
Couple that with how absurd the other team members can be, and they look too childish to be involved in this scenario - parody or not.

that's literally what happened with Kamille, he got punched by a titans officer, there was an attack in his colony, saw the Jerid getting off the Mk II and jumped in it just because he was still angry and then proceeded to join AEUG.
And it's stated in the previous comic the only thing Coney excels at is the technical aspect of things and she had to take an exam to join the academy that included the theory of how to use the MR -- she just didnt want to pilot it because she's rather meek most of the time.
In that way, a superior MR might make the difference like with Amuro when he first got the RX78 -- it wasnt his skill at first, rather how OP the gundam was initially.
