She's quite a nice character, if you ask me. I feel like other readers might disagree, based on the comments from earlier chapters. The dude is too dead set on sticking to that single village till the day he dies of old age. Anything less than Lycia's stubborn determination would be useless to move Len one way or another (although based on the narration it seems like some disaster will make him move anyway). Besides, you don't really become the best, unless you work for it single-mindedly. Her obstinacy is merely a sign of her dream of being the best with a sword. She could compete against geezers with many years of experience, but that would be far less motivating than matching herself against someone of the same age. That's why she won't let go of Len.
