I disagree with others here. Johan may not want money as an end in itself (like many in the world), but he does want or need money as a tool to play his games with people's lives.

I think there's honestly no separation in Johans mind. He is the person he is. But I think his tears are genuine. He's warped, but I think he's the kind where displaying an emotion like this still comes to him.

How sincere that is... up to the viewer.
