@givemersspls I know you've already gotten way too many replies already, but you're acting like the mask isn't even suspicious at all in the context he's wearing it in just because masks are less uncommon in parts of Asia for sick people or people avoiding getting sick. But it is still suspicious. It's night time, the location is a dark alleyway. A man, lurking in such a place in his current appearance is rightfully going to terrify people that suddenly see him unexpectedly. At first, she's just startled but that's your adrenaline starting to pump. She asks why he'd be doing that, because it's suspicious and tells him he should take the mask off. He declares that he can't take the mask off, with no further explanation at that time. She's entering panic mode now, and not unreasonably. Fight or flight response is activating. Then he says "I'll show you." Not, "Sorry, I'll show you my face. Please relax." Just, "I'll show you." Now she thinks he's a friggin' flasher or something, throws her garbage bag in the heat of the moment.

Now, he's continuing to try and explain himself but she is not in the frame of mind to be hearing him anymore. He further, makes several more mistakes at this point. First, he's approaching her while she's in this panicked state. He keeps telling her to be quiet, which sounds really bad now. "He's trying to silence me" is all she's going to think now. Finally, he puts his hand on her to stop her from leaving. When someone is out of their wits and thinks you're some sort of pervert attacking them in a dark alleyway, you do not touch them.

Could she have handled this situation differently? Maybe, panic tends to make people not think as clearly as they could though. Should he have handled this situation differently? Absolutely. There were several times where he should have just bailed if nothing else. He's incognito, he doesn't need to explain shit to her because she doesn't recognize him anyway. Whatever else happened here, he 100% should not have physically stopped her from leaving. I'm assuming that's part of why you're more okay with the son's flying kick, because all he's seeing and hearing was probably his mom freaking out and being restrained by some dude.

My TL;DR point here is, the context of everything in the entire situation matters. You can't discard the mask here because they're not particularly uncommon in Korea in other contexts. In this context it looked very bad.

@givemersspls The physical contact bit is the one non-negotiable thing here, I can agree to disagree on other aspects here. But putting his hand on someone he doesn't know from a hole in the wall and who doesn't know him from a hole in the wall, who is currently afraid of him and fleeing was not the right move, though. That was honestly quite a terrible decision on his part.

You mention the social implications if she'd gotten away and called the cops or something for instance, but how about if someone got a picture of him in that getup, grabbing a scared woman near a dark alleyway and then the cops get there? He's not going to talk his way out of that in pretty much any version of events afterward, the public perception will be set in stone day one because that's how it works unfortunately. She herself could come forward and clear up the misunderstanding on national news, people would only remember and focus on the initial incident.

Even if the cops had gotten involved, as long as the only thing he did was stand in a weird spot dressed unusually, he didn't do anything actionable. But the second he touched her was not good for him. Hell, if he hadn't done that it could have turned around on her as the one who assaulted an innocent man with a trash bag. But he did in fact get trying to physically stop her from leaving in this whole situation that looked pretty questionable already, and that's how he caught a foot with his face. He's almost lucky that it was only the MC who saw it, because of how the MC handled it. Anyone else might've snapped a pic and dialed 119, that's our bad end there.

@givemersspls Reasonable force is pretty much applicable to actual physical harm that's being done to you or your property or about to be done to you or your property, granted this could vary wildly from place to place and I'm not exactly a South Korean law expert. Her potentially ruining his career with a call to the cops is not where you can apply it as far as I'm aware with the version of reasonable force that would apply for me where I live, though. In theory he's supposed to be discussing what happened with the cops to clear it up if she does actually call them. Maybe it ends up okay, maybe it doesn't. That's the triumphs and failures of the legal system.

The picture example is also more or less the same as your own example for the potential social implications that you outlined. A what if scenario. My what if is meant to support my position that what he did was a bad decision from his position in how it could affect him, from a different angle than I initially approached the issue. There are hundreds of other what ifs we could readily apply here as well, including stuff like "what if he simply left for now, and isn't even in the neighborhood when the cops come around to check out what she called about" or the "what if he had never hid in the first place, which made him look way more suspicious than he ever needed to."

It'd be fair to say both of us were talking about unrelated things here, since neither of our what ifs actually happened. A fair amount of what we've talked about here is well outside the scope of what actually happened in the story, if we want to look at relevance.

@givemersspls This manhwa is based on real human reasoning than ur anime logic... The action here are what every/most woman would react when a person go through the same ordeal. Justifying whether its wrong or right is altogether a different thing... but many of such encounters turns out to be 65-70% real criminals and mere 35-30% are people who are innocent and misunderstood ... The crime rates are increasing in hazardous amount and any person would have the same reaction... You still adamant on, its okay to act creepy which is totally wrong nowadays, this isn't socially acceptable despite reasoning... even though you say its alright okay to dress like that at day but at night that reason doesn't cut out for the human society we live in nowadays. For example you could say its similar to Islamophobia after 9/11 in most of european/western countries... either way if its guilty until proven innocent or innocent till proven guilty... the stakes were higher for mom while keeping the current crime rates in mind, there was a higher chance of there could have been a criminal then an innocent man who looked like some criminal...

While keeping in mind as the world get worse by day, It's is better to try to keep a bad thing from happening than it is to fix the bad thing once it has happened.
"Prevention is better than cure"

Whether the person is good or bad is irrelevant, nowadays one should never let one be in such tight spot to begin with. There is a big hole in our jurisdiction system and the people itself can be easily manipulated.
Try urself, Go out in shady area dressed all creepy and pop out and surprise a lone girl, and try starting a conversation with her while hiding behind some trash can... 9 Out of10 ppl would do the exact reaction, if not worse...

nowadays justice is just a flimsy word, justice won't get you jack.
criminals are in top food chain than humans, period.

Sorry to intrude...
"She was dressed like that so she was asking for it."
Really? Thats your victim play?
That sounds totally like what your average rapist would say...

Its really hard for us men to play the victim specially against women...
@Chococupcake29
Slap a girl... People would say that guy is an asshole..
And if a girl were to slap you... People would say, maybe that guy probably did something wrong. Either way men are looked like criminals.

We men can only play victim card when we are proven innocent... But still the backlashes are far greater... The stains as labeled as a criminal would still remain and only to be cleaned in the next life.

I mostly avoid getting in trouble with women in general. Hence i can empathize with golf dude, he could have played his cards in a different way and might have avoided the whole situation together without the mother needing to attack him with garbage.

But there's no fun in that way right?
Hence the author deliberately chose this route.

Omg I thought it would be cliche shoujo hate-to-love scenario, when a guy hates mc for something really stupid, like not recognizing their famous ass, but this is waaaay better!

Just for context since the posts got deleted, chococupcake basically said that the guy in this chapter shouldn't have been acting suspicious and and therefore he deserved to be attacked like this. That's below. A deleted comment said that's victim blaming, basically the same thing as saying that a rape victim was dressing sexually so they deserved it. According to chococupcake, that kind of victim blaming is okay. Chococupcake basically supports victim blaming.
