Usually it's the villainess-type character whose engagement or marriage gets annulled, this is a very refreshing scene.

Hey, everything is fine, Rosemary has the perfect Job after she fails this whole Noble and engagement thing: Gravedigger.
At least she has a lot of experience digging her own grave XD

For people who love Rosemary, I want to suggest Otonashi’s older work, Cinderella story. A short read, probably just 1/3 to 1/2 normal LN.
The MC might not be as strong as Serena, but the antagonist is like over-steeped Rosemary tea in stupidity and death wishing.

There’s also Throw the trash into garbage bin where the MC just fight it the aristocracy (read: dirty) way. Things like ruining reputation and making them lose their place in society.
Like in a scene, her narration goes : Yes, tears are a woman’s weapon, but what made you think you’re the only one who has it? I’m also a woman.

Also compared to those, Serena’s family is decent. Her mother might not be the most perfect person, but she’s overall a (too) nice person, and her father is sane enough.
The parents in the other works are typical Cinderella story’s evil family. Father who loves his new family more, evil stepmother who hates the daughter from previous wife, and the stepsister who bully while playing victim.

Oh, and there’s also a new one where the MC’s fiancé got stolen by her stepbrother (from her father’s lover). She calls his mother a whore, and her son is a manwhore. That’s despite understanding well marriage between nobles are job, and having affair is normal, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have reason to despise the affair partner.

I get it but… why Serena also suprised??
She underestimated human’s stupidity.

My assumption is, she assumed Einrich to be at least smart enough to not cause problem he couldn’t get out from because he shoot his own feet.

Remember that Serena is the kind of person who can’t understand why someone would do something so stupid as sacrificing personal profit in the long run for momentary emotion.
By causing this kind of ruckus, Einrich is ruining his mother’s plan for him to reach the throne. He’s throwing away his future just to attack a small fry like Rosemary, that’s just stupid.

Among nobility, it’s normal that husband/wife is business. After they marry and produce heir, both can even just neglect their child and play with their chosen lovers. He can play around after getting his goal and done his job, it’s not too late.
Although noble women are prideful and likely got pissed off at their husband’s affair partner even if she never love him for the slightest from the very beginning.

Why dose Serena looks surprised at the end?
because shes still an antisocial psychopath who exists on the fringe of noble society playing as this perfect ideal of The Duchess because the closest thing to an emotion she felt is that disgusting feeling she couldnt identify in her chest when evan grabbed her wrist a few chapters ago.

Einrich doing something based on emotion, granted wholly justified considering that Rosemary was attempting to bully the naturally born sister to the family she was adopted into, doesnt make logical sense to Serena because it causes him and Serena greater harm then ignoring it. after all Serena loves her parents that she never had as 9956 and feels guilty about being a reincarnation instead of their wholly original daughter that the mom would have been able to love. There is literally no one except Serena who is aware that Serena essentially does love Rosemary for being the daughter 9956 took away, since their interactions essentially are exclusively Serena either subduing/scolding Rosemary for breaking noble etiquette or calling out the hypocrisy of Rosemary's claims when 9956 has lived both in absolute poverty and absolute luxury. If Rosemary was remotely responsible they probably could have grown up fairly well with Serena listening as Rosemary talks about her dolls, acquaintances, or such while she polishes and maintains her personal armory.

Serena is fulfilling a stock archetype, the same archetype as Yor in Spy X Family, and Aria in Heroine Survival.
i wouldnt really consider it a box archetype with those 3. Aria Ironrose/Alicia Melrose is a rage monster chained by incredible focus, her lesbian true love, and her ever expanding adoptive family (currently the dwarf brothers, the other 4 members of rainbow sword, her adoptive mom/The War Demon, and her adoptive Aunt). Yor is desperate and defined by familial affection and trying to be normal while having no ability to be normal.

Operative 19956: Serena Violet doesnt care about others on a personal level but as a form of transactionary regret. she might love Amaryllis and the emotional support Rosemary provides to Amaryllis, and enjoy her father's company, but she also was willing to run away when her mother made a horrific decision that threatened her.

theyre all broken psychopathic prettygirls but thats a compositional position not an archetype.

Serena tried to be civil and actually give advice... advice that Rosemary wasn't ready to hear. When talks fail, violence follows. And that was restraint from Serena.

Damn, Scarnet is here to fan the flames and inevitably make Rosemary think Serena was out to destroy her. Scarnet is part of Einrich's groupies? I guess she's no friend after all. Just another social climbing bitch who wants to get closer to Serena for connections.

Whoa, I've seen so many engagement annulment scenes happening to protagonists that it feels weird to see it happen to an antagonist. A condemnation event with the protagonist as a bystander? That's actually kinda refreshing.

Let the (final?) hammer of consequences fall on Rosemary. I'm not looking forward to Einrich trying to force an engagement with Serena next. Evan (and Tigur) will likely try to stop that, but if Einrich has his way I'm sure this would be his next move.

Pineapples on pizza? You do know those are just acidic fruit-flavored mostly-edible needles right?
