Too sheltered. In one of the side stories, her husband did think it's a problem with their culture too, about how the males in the aristocratic society, including himself, are too protective of the females (even to the point of arrogance).Jfc Amaryllis is the wife of a duke and she can't even run a household? Is there some justification for her being like this or is it just left up in the air?
Amaryllis' case is probably more than the other as she prefers to avoid socializing and interacting with other ladies, not involving herself with the scheming and gossips. So she didn't have what her daughter would say, open your eyes and see the real world.
But if we talk of the story... it's a short story, so it doesn't do much to try making up justification on how the things in the background happens. It just want to tell this is the environment and situation the protagonist is placed in.
Imagine seeing a theatrical play where the audience just focus on the main characters' actions and how the plot unfolds in limited time. There are background stories told, but the audience don't put too much focus on asking why that tree in the background has fruit at that specific angle in one scene, why that one maid twitch discreetly at that moment, or analysing the colour of the family crest hung on the wall as a secret message from the author.
That, rather than audience of Youtubers who enjoy sessions like "25 minor details you might have missed" about a franchise and need to know every smallest details have a meaning and intention.
