Wouldn't really worry that much about the first one, it's just the average stepping stone for the "MC still has to grow in some way"/"MC still can learn something" and will do it midfight against the archer.
But the second one seems like the kind of guy who is not evil enough for the MC to have the will to obliterate him, so he might just use the competition (that he doesn't seem to care that much about) to get close to the MC to study him (and then continue to pester him latter on). And that is what makes him the most dangerous.

When a bow is drawn right-handed, the left arm and chest are in the vague path of the string. There is usually forearm protection for the left arm. Irl, a used set of chest and arm protection will have alot of scuff marks. That this piece is missing on a person wearing a long sleeve loose sweater is an artistic miss.

The shoulder armor is not as practical as it's only chance to shine is in melee combat.
