Another bittersweet one... and some mysteries are best left alone.

Thank you for the translation! Seeing such a melancholy slice of life sci fi really makes me happy. It's hard to find series set in the fantastical that have such a human, day to day feeling.

I believe the mangaka is pulling here The Twin Paradox thought experiment (from Einstein's General Relativity Theory) when it comes to space travel in near light speed (assuming that is the speed the characters that explore space are traveling).
Which means the ones who stay on Earth age faster relatively to the ones that travel through space away from Earth and back. Or to put this the other way, time goes slower for the ones that do a round trip travel near light speed.
As of why Motoka doesn't seem to age, there isn't much hints so far to guess. Jupiter's gravity isn't so great to slow down time that much on Motoka's moon, as the water planet orbiting the Black Hole did in the Interstellar movie.

@Hermann To put it more precisely, it's the acceleration/deceleration that cause it, not the distance/travel per se. Think of it this way, if it wasn't, you could reverse the whole situation and from the perspective of the space traveler, it would be Earth itself that moves away and back...

@Chizan Exactly! Well put.
On an added note, if this is what the mangaka is using for his world building in this series, this would be the rare scifi stories I know where the Twin Paradox is pulled off well, exploring how that could affect society, individuals and their family if space exploration becomes a normal occurance. It did bother me in stories where lightspeed travel is possible (think Star Wars, Star Trek, etc...) and yet it doesn't seem to have any effect on a relativistic level to the characters.

"One cant run away from cruelty of time",
i like how author know FTL travel can do some terrible thing, like how Mr. Star lives longer than his own grandchild

i think this img means 1 year out in space = 10 years on earth?
