So is this whole truck-kun thing just a self-aware parody at this point? Cuz as far as actual narrative devices go, I won't say it's bad but it's a bit of a waste.
In Yu Yu Hakusho, the MC getting hit by a car led to the rest of the plot while also expanding on the personalities of all the people around his life. It was poignant and impactful.
Even in the isekai genre, you have Slime Tensei where Rimuru's abilities were manifested from his final desires during his death which was kinda cool.
I just feel like most authors these days are just growing complacent with both world and character building in the introduction. Not all obviously (Yakuza Reincarnation has a great first chapter), but certainly most.
