oh I thought at first that he had been buried under the tree and was a ghost... it's almost worse that he was killed and turned into a bench!!

Was he really killed though? I mean technically his tree was killed but the spirit itself was still 'alive' and happy to be closer to the girl

I never knew that trees can separated by gender. I thought they're both males and females at the same time.

Depends on the tree, but they can be dioecious, monoecious, or hermaphroditic—as in some trees can produce flowers of only one sex, some trees produce flowers of either sex on one tree, and some trees have flowers with both male and female parts.
