I will never understand the "hiding true power" type shit, dude they treat you like a dog, just go live on your own or something.

well usually it's to prevent being dragged into troublesome responsibilities versus being able to talk to the generic goddess at the beginning for specifics on personal freedoms and such

tho it did apparently win a competition so hopefully it's gonna get better

As with every other trope, it isn't bad on its own. What makes it bad is how it is used. In the case of this story, and most others in the genre, the trope is just a crutch both to have the MC be overpowered while still being a reactive character and maintain the illusion of conflict.

So he has infinite magic power but decides to live like a animal. makes absolutely no sense whatsoever
Yep and I read the comments from the webnovel readers on novelupdates and it's basically generic isekai slop, so I'm going to turn my brain off and dive on in(this also needs a harem tag)

Sure, he doesn't want his family to know about your powers, but can't you cover some of your clothes and belongings in blood, literally give them to some wild monsters, and flee letting them think you died? Your existence has been hidden in the first place, so starting new now or later will make no difference; doubt they're giving you a letter of recommendation when you finally get kicked out, so if it wasn't for letting this girls know who you were, you'd be starting as a blank slate anyways.

Struggling to suspend my disbelief:

You're telling me that the two daughters (one being the eldest) of the marquiss who is the head court mage in the nation are hanging out in some lowly backwater HONORARY viscount's territory without guards or attendants?

This socializing would work without explanation if they were impoverished kids from the same village hanging out after class, but they're not. They're all nobles from different territories and ranks. Author couldn't even put forward the bare minimum exposition for the cookie cutter setting

Cool! They are doing a manga adaptation for this too.
This author usually writes cool characters that people are interested about.
I remember a lot of people liking his first novel "I'm a Bastard but you are worse!"
He is also writing "Poison King" . This series should be more fitting to all ages compared to his previous ones.
I made an audiobook video for the web novel if you are interested in checking out the story by listening to it. I got a lot of requests for more of it which means it should get more interesting with the next chapters.

From what I remember in the webnovel, not sure if it was also shown in the light novel:
Even though he has his cheat infinite magical power thing going, he wouldn't be able to study magic on own since hes dirt poor and thus he wouldn't be able to make a living on his own - just coincidentally with his infinite mana he's also able to copy magic he sees/feels/gets attacked with iirc so the way hes been learning magic is either from strangers that tell him something or whenever his brother uses him as a target dummy but that was never explained in the manga for whatever reason

Iirc, the two sisters were sent over to socialize with these lower nobles mainly because I think the Honorary Viscount mf is actually a pretty decent mage ability wise and probably has been trying to weasel his son into meeting the Marquis' daughters by boasting him as some genius on the up-and-coming. whether it will be explained later in the manga idk

Right, I don't think it's impossible because that was the exact scenario I imagined, but I would have appreciated an off-hand comment, maybe during the meal scene "Make yourself scarce, we have important guests coming."

The lack of guards and supervision... will begrudgingly have to let slide, if the adapting mangaka upheld that bare minimum.
