This is probably the biggest plot advancement in the series in, like, 3 or 4 years.
Villager (main character) guy dies and time loops back to the beginning several times, each time trying to get stronger to prevent his childhood crush from being used/dying as the Hero by the Sage. He is a reincarnated person from Earth, so is the Sage, and so is a various number of people in the world. The Sage is set up as a huge big bad for the world, as every time loop the Sage does something that changes the world for the worse but the Villager (MC) cannot determine what because every time he dies before he can find out what the Sage is really up to.
So the Villager (MC) trains and dies but manages to retain the skills from previous loops. As the villager gets stronger, he reaches certain milestones that increase his power exponentially as well as getting followers (a 'wife', an 'apprentice', a 'daughter'). He realizes that his power-up is making his childhood friend/crush weaker than she needs to be so he goes off on a quest to find out the truth(s) of the world, ways to counter the Sage, as well as solve a few injustices. Then plot-wise no major plot really happens outside a few "here is a tiny trickle of background plot devices" as the Villager (MC) travels the world, makes some friends/allies, and stops major wars in fantasy feudal Japan, fantasy backstabbing fantasy medieval Europe, and now between the Elves and the Beastmen.
The plot advancement is the Hero from the past is no longer reincarnating as the Hero every 60 years. He killed himself and gave his life to the Goddess in order for her to change the world so that he would stop being the Hero and wanted the Goddess to change the world (which she said she cannot/will not). The Hero's death basically giving the Goddess his accumulated EXP and forcing her to level up and evolve. She then agrees to change the world and makes it so anyone can become a hero.
Meanwhile, the Sage has gathered up his small circle of reincarnated people who were trying to manipulate the world (and failing pretty badly this loop) in a thing called the Ark (which is fairly a new/obscure bit that really wasn't mentioned before, much) which is "supposed" to teleport them to Earth. They believe the world is going to be destroyed by forces showing up that are now stronger than them (the MC and his weird pseudo-harem) so they want out. The reincarnated who want to go back to Earth were tricked by the mask girl by mind manipulation to believe the Ark will send them back to Earth but in reality the Sage uses them in some ritual with the Ark to create those artificial fake Hero robot things.
The fact that the last two paragraphs are the biggest plot advancement in the story in literal years is... yeah. I get that it is primarily a battle story but to have a trickle of plot AND THEN a whole dump of plot AND a year time-skip... either the story is winding down to an ending or expect another 4 years of fights with little lore trickles and a completely new rug-pull of plot involving the Sage or something.
Congrats, you are now caught up on Murabito (in a nutshell).
