Glad its getting picked up again. Honestly really enjoy this adaptation a lot more than the anime.
I like them both, but holy fuck I'd appreciate the anime a million times more if it didn't beat around the bush and "censor" (remove) content.
Gushing Over Magical Girls has tits or more being shown in every episode, but Mushoku doesn't even need to go
that far. If we had even High School DXD's level of lewdness vs censorship the anime would be better. Continuously skipping over scenes that give context for events that seem wildly extreme and OoC (like the entire Rudeus and Sara relationship/incident that had half its context cut).
I can only hope that we'll get side stories at some point down the line that add certain events back in, or show those scenes we missed from someone else's perspective.
Honestly, I can forgive "mid" writing (my first anime was
Naruto), and while I watched
One Piece,
Ranma 1/2, and
Sailor Moon as a kid, I'm also the kind of guy who watched and enjoyed SAO enough to read the source material, and get pissed at how rushed and butchered the anime was. I've ranted about it enough that people could probably figure out where I live by tracking my timestamps, but Phantom Bullet would have been a really good 7 or 8/10 season of the anime, if they
hadn't removed Laughing Coffin from SAO. Like seriously, we see them once,
maybe twice as a couple dudes in hoods who immediately back off while "mwahaha"ing sinisterly, with a mention here or there as off-handed comments during other scenes, and then we get Kuradeel, and that's it. GGO is the next time we hear anything related to Laughing Coffin, so Kirito's sudden PTSD feels contrived as fuck. The problems with SAO honestly start with the fact that Reki wrote a
short story for a
contest and only after started retooling it to be a full series, when suddenly he was told SAO had gotten the green light to become an anime. They practically wrote the first season using a first draft and some half-formed notes, when it really should've had a year or two to cook before getting made into an anime.
A number of scenes in the
Jobless anime also get that treatment, but it's still not nearly as much of a shitfest as SAO.
