People and their pride. How could the lord stop a magical disaster? How can he help his people if he is dead. Throwing money at something does not work if you don't have someone who is able to use it wisely. He is the man who has managed that land for a long while and I imagine only He and Phillip are the only ones who could do the job.

Beheaded for an unprecedented event which no one predicted. What kind of fucked up logic is that, even in medieval times people weren't this retarded right. No body would behead the minister because of an earthquake or a volcano erupting. WTF IS THIS.

@Aids We have no way of knowing, but in all likelihood, they may have been. Greed + superstition is a really, really terrible combination that gives birth to really, really questionable decisions.

Also because PIS (plot induced stupidity)

@Aids

Basically, every noble in Asura Kingdom has something loose. The Greyrat extended family is a very powerful family, the second most powerful to the royal family before the incident. That brings a lot of envy from the less powerful families. When the other nobles saw the opportunity to weaken one of the Greyrat branches, they jumped at the chance.

It doesn't matter that it's not Sauros's fault, somebody need to be blamed. Even in real life, there are politicians who took the blame and resigned from their positions eventhough there was nothing they could do to prevent the disasters. You see this all the time, except we have now moved beyond executions

Why the fuck would a lord have to be responsible for a mass teleportation disaster. That's the exact same as blaming someone for being hit with a tsunami or earthquake. One of the dumb things I'd never understand.

@Rage it is precisely because of the people within that court are fools that this is happening.

Yeah that's ridiculous... I'm not sure what is the author going for? Depressing stuff for Eris to face when she gets back and so that the readers would be pissed off by the politics?

Japan's sense of responsability is really fucked up. And the king is just a puppet or he just gives 0 shit about anything ?

Its not that people are actually holding him responsible in their hearts and crying for justice, the teleportation disaster wasn't impactful enough to actually get any of the nobles worried, its just a bunch of peasants that died after all. However, such a huge event was ample ammunition to drag him down, he had two choices in front of him. First was to deny responsibility and fight it out, but with all his rivals in nobility bearing down on him, he was quickly going to dry up the Greyrat family resources and goodwill. Basically, his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter would all end up penniless and with no status. So, he chose #2, accept responsibility for the disaster and let the punishment be limited to himself.

For those thinking "It wasn't caused by him, why is there any burden on him?", the answer is that nobody knows why it happened, which is great for people who want to harm the Greyrat reputation, they can just spread the rumor "The Greyrats were experimenting with new magic" and without the actual reason for the event coming to light, its very difficult to defend against.

Although that guy Darius said "Not Enough", he wasn't truly referring to how well the situation was taken care of, rather gramps' ability to shield himself from the actions others would take. That gloating face was of a predator knowing his prey was absolutely doomed.

This kind of political maneuvering is actually really common in real life, you take a small thing and blow it up until it seems like your rival is a terrible criminal that can never be forgiven. It doesn't matter what the facts are, it matters how much sway their words carry.

@qwyxivi unfortunately they are victims of popularity. They surround themselvees with people who have enough power to oppose the crown in some way or at least stifle the needs and wants of the crown or force the crown to bend the knee in order to receive favor. I still don't see how giving up his own life will stop the harassment of other nobles. As of now Paul is pretty much all there is left that is known to be alive along with the shitty greyrats and the 2 sons. So the family will be puppets by the older one if not a direct son of the shitty greyrats

@Aids : Because this country, like every other isekai country, is magical fantasy Japan. They do that sort of shit in Japan as standard. When things go wrong, all the blame tends to be piled on one person... usually a scapegoat... and they're forced to "take responsibility". Used to be via ritual suicide, but these days it is usually getting fired from their job or some equivalent thing.

@jonathaneze : Magical Fantasy Japan.

@TehSDragon : ... Magical Fantasy Japan.

@Aichan : Okay, that too... but also Magical Fantasy Japan.

@Rage : Because Magical Fantasy Japan.

@DarklordVor : The author is Japanese. That is why. This sorta shit is normal there.

@Shakur : Yup.

@Straforel : Magical Fantasy Japan.

@Domar : Especially common in Japan and countries similar to Japan.

Wait, did they really blame him for an incident which nobody was responsible for and nobody could stop?
