Spoiler Alert for the LN Volume 5:
The LN version of this was much better, imo. In the LN Rudy saves someone who was appeared to be kidnapped by Paul's group but it was just them saving a slave from the disaster. It grew into a fight between Paul and Rudy but Paul didn't antagonize Rudy in the same way. In the LN Rudy described his adventures as happy go lucky and didn't mention about his family. Which information about the incident was in the guild in Wenport. After Paul told Rudy the truth, Rudy reacted by asking about Sylphy, before his Mother or Sisters. Which caused Rudy to fight back accusing him of cheating. Paul is still in the wrong of course but in the LN, it described it as him misinterpreting Rudy's journey. In this one it just felt like Paul was needlessly angry and unreasonable. I hope the LN version of events gets adapted.
Another reason for him lashing out was because Paul like Rudy was also trying his best. In the 2 years since the Fittoa Incident. Paul had spearheaded the Disaster Management along with the Alfonso* the Butler in Roa. He in the 2 years saved a lot of people and set up base in Miris, but recently they've stopped progressing and have only found the dead whilst Lillia, Aisha and Zenith were still not found. Paul despaired and began to drink. Which probably cause dthe pent up stress
PS: Paul didn't touch anyone since the Fittoa Incident
