This is obviously just in her head... out of grief, she imagines this bug is her dead husband... sometimes, it's replaced by another bug and she doesn't even notice...

they bring up the fact that he only has a bug's lifespan and he has died again by the end (also he does enough stuff that this is all in her head and she's imagined everything feels like a cop out more than part of the story).
