For lots of ppl it seems to be, as short-term it might be. To be honest, lots of people, young ones esp. are more short-sighted than they think they are. Unplanned pregnancies can be prevented in many ways, though i believe if we can be a bit more responsible and treat sex more highly, many, many problems surrounding family, parenting, relationships etc. can be solved.

Casual sex and promiscuity have been nothing but a poison on society.

I reckon it might be for symbolic reasons, or maybe merely artistic reasons, but the way the mangaka sometimes draws the kids so excessively tiny is quite strange. Like they have already entered the elementary school, yet they only reach a bit higher than a high school girl's knees.
