@Vikingix thats pretty much how I interpreted the end as well. Except rather than dump her, he lied about it and pretended to not be a fan of it until years later when they have a kid already and mc realizes he simply isn't happy, tells her and gets a divorce, and so on.
So a few extra steps, but still pretty much exactly the same interpretation, no?
