It's probably a fake fall (e.g. like 2 feet), but it is still outside so the images we're seeing are what he envisions from his hearing.

He could also just survive depending on what he lands on, though I'd hope they aren't that stupid as to allow this.
Can't really imagine much else that wouldn't be patently absurd.

- He comes back as a zombie for revenge, it was a supernatural fantasy manga all along!

- That's it, he is dead and the story ends in the next 2 chapters.

- Plot twsit, the wife was the real MC and now the story focuses on her, as she works in the underground to delete the entire yakuza group and their connections.

- It was all on his head, he imagined being thrown.

- We got bamboozled and starting from next chapter this will become an isekai.

Or more realistically, they have something to catch him below so they can keep interrogating him, after all they need to know what happened with the asshole son, and killing him is getting rid of the one clue they have, and they have shown to be more competent than this.They have shown to be a little too damn competent and smart, so killing him after just that makes no sense.

People are getting confused - this is what he is made to imagine, since they probably replicated the feeling of standing on a ledge like that. Think of it like someone holding a knife to your back, but in reality, it's a butter knife.

Yes the author didn't draw it out very obviously. MC still has his head covered, so everything he thinks he sees is based on his imagination.
