The detective covering the case (that turns out is not really his case) suddenly just so happens was friends with his father, so when he saw him it instantly took an interest on him.

Said detective also just so happens has an obsessive sense of justice, so even if it is not his case, nor his jurisdiction he will go out of his way to investigate the MC

Sure, lets just have things happen for the sake of plot.

Ah yes, this is it. Second season of hit TV series but the writers didn't even anticipate getting renewed. That's the feeling.

it's interesting how the detective says he works to keep yakuza away from the people but he was nowhere to be seen when yakuza were messing with mc in the first arc

Honestly I have no idea why it was necessary to lay it on this thick. But I guess it hasn't jumped the shark yet so let's see if it redeems itself.

This story just took a nose dive into the shit pile. Tetsu did behave a little strange, but this detective who seem be old friend goes out thinking he a criminal already. This is his friend or acquaintance who attend his family funeral. The detective meet randomly with Tetsu and assume the worst of his friend. Then he violate his friend right to track his phone and car. This is just too unreasonable.

this 2nd season was clearly planned because there are too many unresolved plot points:
major plot points:

2. kubo is still alive, and still trying to figure things out
minor plot points:
shino (syndicate boss?)'s role
kyoichi's escape and eventual future

there is also foreshadowing that maybe MC dad's death wasn't an accident
