I still do not understand why she acts this way, everyone hates her for it, and she doesn't even like it. So why does she still try to put on this persona???

Also that one scene where she's questioning if she made a mistake had her main computer screen turned off, with two adjoined monitors to the side both of which are completely empty (no pinned apps on the taskbar, no app shortcuts on the desktop not even the recycling bin, the startup window open for both for some reason, and both just being horizontally rotated screens (in opposite directions) rather than actual vertical setups so anything opened there is gonna be unreadable).

Once you put on a mask it can be hard to take it off again, particularly when you're dealing with people who have only ever seen you with that mask . . .

That goes double when you're in a position of responsibility, and the only way you know to manage that responsibility is through the mask (and the patterns of behaviour and power relationships that the mask enables). Toss a few extras into the mix, like negative self-image issues and lack of confidence in your capacity to fulfill your responsibilities, and it's not that hard to reach a point where it feels like taking off the mask will cause your whole world to collapse and your life to effectively end.

I'm pretty sure this applies to a meaningful percentage of middle managers the world over, and a significantly larger percentage of the bad middle managers out there. Not all, by any means (Dunning-Kreuger and just plain sociopathy can explain a lot more of the bad managers in the world), but enough that it's not just a trope in fiction.

Bless you for translating this series. I had previously attempted to read this using ML. It was not pleasant.
