Best isekai ever ! I probably would know how to cook some stuff but that would depend if the food on another world was the same as here, and that's mostly it, I would know what i learned on school, like elementary fisics, biology and chemistry but sure as hell wouldn't have any idea on how to put that on my favour in any case.
And about magic, with my luck I wouldn't be able to buy any tome or pay any teachers till I was like 30-40 and I probably would think it's too hard and not really my thing, just as fisic and chemistry are really not things I'm really interested in.

Dr Stone is probably the most important thing to read before having a fateful encounter with Truck-kun.

Yeah. Without cheats or being born into a good family oriented nobility, being reincarnated into a pre-modern fantasy world would be hell for all modern people. Especially anyone reading this comment right now.

This is pretty much most of my worries about being reincarnated/transported.
Especially the toilets. I don't want to leave that behind.

The translations are all sorts of weird lol. Americanising the original setting for no reason makes no sense.

I think people underestimate how useful our knowledge could actually be. I know nothing about electricity other than it is charged ions generated by friction, usually by the spinning of a turbine. I'm pretty sure given 20 years of experimentation I could probably figure out how to recreate it. And I'm sure other geniuses in the world I inhabited could fill in a lot of the engineering and math gaps for me.

I could also easily (and almost everyone else here) could btfo their mercantilist economies with a rough knowledge of industrial production and capitalism.
Otherwise it'd just be like a long camping trip, not that tough to get used to tbh.

@Rozzak I disagree. People overestimate the knowledge an average person has. People know a lot sure, but what we know is elementary. Unless you specialize in a field, it’s likely the knowledge you have isn’t enough to be useful. Ask a person how to make any modern invention and they most likely can’t tell you. They probably can’t tell you the materials, formula, or how to assemble them either. That’s why a lot of isekais use magic to conjure the items up. Fact of the matter is, most of the modern knowledge is useless in a world where magic is possible.

Having geniuses fill in the gaps? Unlikely. They’re geniuses, why would they listen to some random person with vague ideas? Unless your ideas are revolutionary and something that magic can’t solve, then they’ll just ignore you.

Knowledge of capitalism and industrial production? Useless. People aren’t stupid, they’ll just copy you or kill you. Unless you have some serious backing or are the son of a king or something, you’ll be stopped in your tracks way before you amass any real fortune.

This manga is realistic. Drop any modern person into a different world and they’ll most likely go down the same path as the MC.

Just basic modern accounting/econ knowledge would make you a merchant god. The Romans couldn't even wrap their heads around the concept of inflation. There is a lot of fundamental logic that we take for granted that only exists because of one genius in the continuity of the human race was like "hey... wait a minute...". The isekai people aren't privy to that continuity of human knowledge. You're gonna go places.

@Liu I mean I know how to make soap.
1) Get ashes.
2) Wash ashes with piss. I'm not kidding.
3) Wash ashses with water to get rid of piss.
4) Mix with animal fat and flowers.

Congratulations you've got the world's shittest soap.

There are a lot of things I probably could make if I was given years to iterate upon ideas I have. I think a big part of what you miss is that even if we don't know the technical details of something, the simple knowledge of that "It can be done" and a rough knowledge of how to do it is actually enough to solve an issue when given enough time.

That said, since this one-shot is a realistic take on isekai manga, it means that he wouldn't have had the time or money to do any experimenting.
Well, the thing is, knowledge on how to make soap have been around since at least the ancient Greek. It's a myth that medieval people don't wash and clean, they do, regularly in fact, they have bathhouses and use soaps to clean themselves. The problem is there wasn't a distinction between clean and safe back then without germ theory, a hand clean without dirt can still be inhabited by deadly germs and so on. It's gonna be hard to convince the average person to wash their hand even if it's not dirty since you didn't have germ theory yet, and to invent that you need to invent the microscope first, and good luck with that.

Edit: also a lot of things showed about medieval life here is also kind of a myth. For example: While medieval peasants certainly didn't have acess to expensive spices and meat, they certainly did have acess to herbs, fish and sometimes pork, meals weren't tasteless gruel, that was more of an industrial revolution thing.
