I'm not the most qualified person to talk about this, but...
The Geo Taji folktale is a story passed down since the Silla dynasty.
Geo Taji was a famed archer who was chosen to accompany the prince on a trip to the Tang empire (it was common practice for Korea to send messengers to China to pay tribute back in the day), but during the trip, they were met with strong winds which stranded them in Goekdo (the past name of Baengnyeongdo).
Unable to proceed, the prince conducted a ritual on a holy lake on the island, where he received a message to leave behind a talented archer on the island. Amongst the crew, Geo Taji was chosen, and the rest of the crew was blessed with fair winds.
Meanwhile, the left behind Geo Taji encountered an elderly man who appeared out of the lake. The man introduced himself as the god of the Yellow Sea, and pleaded Geo Taji to shoot down a monk who had been coming to the lake every morning, eating the livers of all but one of his children. Geo Taji, confident in his skills with the bow, accepted the task.
The following mornig, Geo Taji was indeed able to encounter a monk on the lake’s shore, who was about to eat the liver of a dragon bound by the monk’s spell. In that instant, Geo Taji drew his bow and shot the monk, who changed back into an old fox upon its death.
The elderly man, thankful for Geo Taji’s efforts, suggested Geo Taji to accept his daughter (who would be Yeorin in this manhua’s case) as his wife, to which Geo Taji graciously accepted. With his task complete, the elderly man sent Geo Taji back on his journey to the Tang Empire. The elderly man magically changed the daughter into a flower stalk so that Geo Taji could carry her with him safely, and sent two other dragons to go with him as guides.
In the end, Geo Taji and the prince was able to successfully complete their trip and return back home, where Geo Taji changed back the flower stalk back to human form, and lived happily ever after.
Compare this to chapter 179, and My Love Tiger's version of this story somewhat follows the original version.
On an unrelated note, the reason why Yeorin calls Geo Taji “Beggar” is because Geo Ji literally means beggar in Korean.
