Wow now we have the full backstory, nice to see the decisiveness to part here
Yeah! I thought so too. I understand and follow the other discussion about the sacrifice as well, though.

There's meaningfulness in 'time and place for everything'. If Ren felt inner battles, those are things she felt important to adress first in order to be able to face something else. It could haunt her and stand in their way otherwise.

Sometimes leaving is also a compasionate choice that makes you grow.

Honestly, Ren did unilaterally decide for the both of them, but I really think that she did it because:
  • She recognizes both of them would suffer in a relationship where they had to compromise their stardom, or full potential, for love
  • Both she and Youji are very self motivated, and as stated in this chapter, more self focused/centered/serving than the avg folks (which makes sense since they both want to reach and become the light as artists in their respective fields)
  • Ren definitely felt inadequate and insecure/envious of Youji's progression, and to come back to both point 1 and 2, she knew that she would never be fully happy being in Youji's shadow, and both of them needs to stand equal alongside one another to share happiness
All of this is just to say that while this was probably a traumatic rejection for Youji, I think Renwei was really just looking out for both of them-- even if some of it was born from self serving reasons of her own.

Hope to see them officially-ish together soon! Seeing as how the author puts a lot of effort in teetering around this-- not sure if they'll get together anytime soon lmao.

This was definitely worth the year long wait but I do hope that we'll have more present-time story progression from here on out.

I really love this. Stories exploring the "right person, wrong time" theme is always a treat. Sometimes people need to grow apart before they can be together.

Even if we want to be critical of Ren for her decision to prioritize her career, we can also see it as her not having a confidence in herself. She needed the time to improve and mature.

And also if they got together earlier we wouldn't have Youzi and that would be the greatest loss of all. (She's adorable and I love her.)

The end was hard to read, but it made the story great. Despite everything I liked the prideful part of Ren, it is something you need to have in order to success, you need to be competitive and strict with yourself. Also Youji mentioned that the one time she fell in love in reality was her just admiring someone and trying to become like him. I liked because the story shows you Ren acting the same, she loved Youji but also had this feeling of wanting to be as high as her. This manhua started really on the comedic end and now I feel is a full romatic story, I also forgot how the mother was supposed to be shipped with other girls, but who cares anyways Ren x Youji is more than enough
