Actually, the stingers of all stinging hymenopterans (excluding the family Chrysididae) have lost their functionality as ovipositors, with the egg-laying being done from an orifice at the base of the stinger.

You know, I've seen video of the egg laying process, and yeah. Must have misinterpreted that entomology site's description. (Was running down a rabbithole before I commented)
