Tsuchigumo's in Japan is split into two terms. 1st type renegade clans/barbarians who may or may not have glowing tails depending on the story. IRL its a term for those who do not obey the Imperial Court aka the government, it took a more monsterous turn over the years.
The more common yokai one eats people, animals, etc, they can shapeshift like Jorogumo, though Jorogumo control fire breathing spiders.

Tsuchigumo have more wide ranged illusion powers compared to Jorogumo, and tend to have be ambitions then merely eating young men which Jorogumo are content with. They have raised armies against Japan and some target powerful warriors to kill. Minamoto no Yorimitsu also known as Minamoto no Raikou, has fought many and is revered as a monster slayer. For those familiar with Fate, I am talking about Mommy Raikou, who for some reason is Indra's daughter due to 4 Heavenly Kings which is weird since Gozu Tennou a demon god of plague and is always seen as an aspect of the Storm God Susannoo, meaning Raikou should have been Susanoo's kid. GT's shrines irl have been converted to Susanoo shrines.

Tsuchigumo is bad news, but this is a fictional story and they can take creative liberties.

Japan folklore is a bit more nuanced about wgole Demons and Gods thing. Sometimes it was almost interchangeable in reference to some.
Like some Kitsume can be mischievous tricksters that cause harm to innocent and in other region they are revered as Guardian Spirits/Gods of local town.
