A bit of an anecdote, but once you take a drug strong enough to dissociate a little bit, you can really realize how what you're feeling in the here-and-now is just bs, that can change just as easily; we're meat-suits with chemicals that at large dictate how we think and feel, and those chemicals can be influenced. Daring to draw any logical conclusions based on chemistry is just wobbly, and probably just as emotional.

That, and mangaka tend to lose a significant amount of freedom in what they can do with the property when they sign on with a publisher. This day and age it's much better to be self published. You don't make as much money, but you can do as you damn-well please.

I think it comes down to the author never wants it to get too serious for too long, so Taya needs a way to resolve any potential conflict instantly if it starts to shift the mood too much from “feel good healing”

I mean, she's literally some spider monster that can weave fate or destiny itself it seems, even if her combat abilities weren't extraordinary, she could probably just manipulate fate to where she wins any fight she encounters...

And seeing as this has been established BEFORE the fight and not after, she's just a really powerful character, not a poorly written one.
