If a native English speaker is speaking out loud with correct grammar it's likely by accident. As such given that the sentence in question is dialogue I am saying translating it either way is fine because a native speaker could say it either way. Basically you are complaining that someone wrote a sentence of dialogue with someone saying "inflammable" or "PIN number" or "Chai tea" all of which are incorrect but commonly said out loud.

And I obviously could care less because if I couldn't care less I wouldn't have responded in the first place.

Edit: Now if they had used "decimate" to mean anything other than reduce by 1/10th we'd be having an entirely different conversation

Introducing grammar mistakes in a work translation or defending them because those are supposedly common from native english speakers is completely nonsensical lol. I don't think you realize the implications of this justification.

EDIT: I just remembered that this isn't a translation, the author merely has terrible english.
