Not to be rude, but how did you come to that conclusion? I think it's more that she's worrying excessively about the child's welfare, and she's being paranoid (or overly cautious) that she might be sick.

Not exactly, from kid's words - mother told her she'd be "a bit" late, because she "ran into something", she might have done that over the phone or something. Though, "she'll be here until tomorrow noon" is not what i'd call "a bit late" - unless they decided that kid would stay at Taya's (they seemed pretty friendly over the phone) overnight, and mom would wrap up her business.
