The way I understand it is that "Watercolor can be our enemy." is not what she's saying, but what the ML hears her saying because of her soft voice/him being distracted.

It was driving me nuts, so I _{booked a plane ticket to Japan} went to the artist's pixiv.

Turns out it's a simple mistranslation.
敵/teki = enemy/foe/opponent
but
素敵/suteki = wonderful/fantastic/amazing

So the correct sentence would be something like, "Watercolor (painting) is amazing!" or "Watercolor (painting) can be fantastic!"
