Kazama just noped out of there the moment Futaba arrived. He wants no part of this budding 'lover's quarrel'.

It took me an unforgivably long time to get that these eyes are a Nagatoro reference.
those dead fish eyes...i thought it was familiar, so it was the infamous toro eyes...
She got those nagatoro eyes

Wait, is that where they came from originally? Did they use them first? I'd have thought they were older than that. I'm pretty sure I've seen those kinds of eyes (on the last page) used in Nisekoi, and that's older than Nagatoro. Also seen them in Azumanga Daioh clips, but can't recall if an actual human used them, I just remember clips with the cat monster thing with those kinds of eyes.

I suppose at bare minimum, Nagatoro popularized using them for effect on a character.

Though 'dead fish eyes' makes me think of Hachiman Hikigaya from RomCom SNAFU. It felt like his usual eyes were described as such quite constantly.

It's not dead fish eyes (which is a literary description of a certain type of gaze/eyes in life, so it's as old as human culture is); those are a completely different concept (indeed Hikigaya has them). The other commenter used confusing wording, that all.
In this chapter, it's literally Nagatoro-inspired eyes. You can even call it a homage.
Reason being back when this chapter was releasing Nagatoro was at peak popularity so such inter-manga references were pretty obvious. Half a decade later, it's not.

I don't have a screenshot on hand, but basically those completely black filled eyes are used in Nagatoro often whenever she's crushed/annoyed/whatever but suppressed.
Cheers.
