Yep, i hope so
There's some heavy hinting from Su Man's internal dialogue that this is purely a marriage of convenience, with both parties fully aware. There's insinuation that Su Man specifically chose Ruan Tao's family so she could watch over Ruan Tao and get closer to her, and that Ruan Tao's dad has an actual lover himself.

It's not made clear, but there's a moment where Su Man wonders internally if Ruan Tao will be able to accept her dad's lover and relationship.

Basically, don't worry.
Didn't the story already more or less show that the marriage is purely for convenience? Sure maybe it wasn't outright said with all the words, but I'm pretty sure that was already kinda of made clear.

Though I could just be remembering poorly :thonk:

Thanks for the translation!

Although it gave us some iconic Su Man poses in this chapter, I'm going to complain a little. The more I learn about the Su Man and Ruan Tao backstory, the more I wish I didn't. Author clearly thinks its sweet and romantic, but it would have been better (and so much funnier) if Su Man had first met Ruan Tao for the first time in the present day, instead of being potentially in love with her since Ruan Tao was a child. Not only is it lazy plotting, its uncomfortable, especially in light of the "I'll Wait" at the end of this chapter. Not well-executed like the Addicted to Her age gap. Still love the series humor (the watermelon eater was a fun sight gag in this chapter) and central dynamic aside from that, but it does pull me out of the story whenever their first meeting is the focus.
i see where you’re coming from, i thought the same at first. but rather than “falling in love with her”, i think Su Man was just deeply moved by Ruan Tao’s kindness. Ruan Tao’s clearly been like this her entire life, caring for others and being everyone’s “sunshine”. so Su Man running into Ruan Tao later when she’s now an adult, it’s possible her emotions could’ve developed to romantic interest. if her intentions were sexual than i’d think it problematic, but you can tell her feelings for her are genuine and pure.

i still think the premise is crazy but to judge their “backstory” (being the one innocent interaction they had years ago) would be to judge the age gap too imo.
