schmilblik you say. How strange to find a French invented word in a manga. Invented by humorist as far as I know to mean literally "thingy". The French humorist Coluche had a sketch in which contestant had to guess what the "schmilblik" is by asking various questions. In the instance the "schmilblik" was an egg, but generally you commonly use the word like you would use "the thing". Coluche was very popular and so was the sketch and the word caught on.
